Nasser Kurdy
Nasser Kurdy is an Orthopaedic surgeon practicing in South Manchester. He is originally from the Middle East and has lived in the UK since 1977. He is married to Syrsa and has three children. Before coming to the UK, he lived in Syria, Kuwait and Lebanon. He moved to Manchester in 1991 and settled in South Manchester in 2002. Nasser has been a chairperson and a lay Imam at Altrincham Muslim Association and has been closely involved in interfaith work. Over the past ten years, he has fostered a close relationship with the three Synagogues in his locality and is a close friend to Rabbi Amir Elituv and Rabbi Dovid Lewis. Sadly he was the victim of a violent stabbing in the back of his neck while entering his local mosque in 2017. His reaction to the stabbing has gained him recognition as he forgave his attacker and called for calm and understanding. Since the stabbing, he has been involved in countering hate and extremism and has published a book titled “A reply to hate: forgiving my attacker”.
