Amir Tadmor
Amir has been trying for some forty years to contribute to Israeli-Arab peace and understanding. He was Yitzhak Rabin’s spokesperson from 1991-1992. In the Rabin government, he served as Director of the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Economy. As such, he coordinated peace-building and cooperative projects with the Palestinian Authority, Jordan, and Egypt; working closely with the US State Deptartment and the European Union. He later moved to the Prime Minister’s Office, serving in the same capacity.
Amir resigned from the Prime Minister’s Office after the assasination of Rabin, and turned to peace education and Jewish education. He established the joint Arab-Jewish association ‘Children of Abraham.’ He initiated and led numerous dialogue groups and teacher training courses throughout Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza.
Although Amir does not reside near one of our branches, he joined the Roots team of activists in 2021. He has dedicated himself to pushing forward Roots’ Jewish-Muslim Beit Midrash (Study House) in which rabbis and sheikhs will sit together and study Jewish and Muslim texts. This program seeks to elevate Roots’ message that Judaism and Islam are sister religions, and that faith and religion can and must be a foundation for peace and understanding.
Amir holds a BA in International Relations and Middle East Studies from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He did graduate studies in Arabic, Islam, and the Middle East at both Hebrew University and UCLA. He holds an MA in Judaism from Machon Shechter-JTS Israel and an MA in Education from Tel Aviv University.
