Rabbi Steinhardt

Rabbi David Steinhardt has been the spiritual leader and senior rabbi of B’nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton, a leading American synagogue, since 1994.  He was ordained from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1982.

Rabbi Steinhardt has been involved in Jewish learning and community his entire career. He is a Senior Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem; promoting their message of religious pluralism and tolerance. The expression of Jewish values is at the heart of his work and connected deeply to his understanding of community and Zionism.

Rabbi Steinhardt is involved in interfaith organizations. He initiated Palestinian/Jewish conversations, Black/White leadership training and Interfaith clergy groups. Together with Father Andrew Sherman of St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church he founded Boca Raton’s first Interfaith Clergy Group (BRICA). He also initiated the first Jewish/Muslim Dialogue group in Boca Raton between B’nai Torah Congregation and the Islamic Center of Boca Raton.

At B’nai Torah Congregation he took the lead inspiring the congregation to co-sponsor Family Promise, a local program to shelter homeless families. He also instituted a program called (T.L.C.) which has over 600 people engaged in community service.

He has served on local Federation boards, on the Rabbinic Cabinet of Israel Bonds, the Chancellors Cabinet of the Jewish Theological Seminary and the Israel Tennis and Educational Centers. He is a past president of the Palm Beach County Board of Rabbis and a past chair of the Jewish Federation’s Community Relations Counsel and Israel Overseas Committee.

Rabbi Steinhardt is a loving father and grandfather and is married to Dr. Tobi Richman Steinhardt.
